Jakarta, 10 June 2026 – Amid ongoing economic pressures that are making consumers more selective with their spending, domestic travellers continue to prioritise trips that offer meaningful experiences and good value. RedDoorz, the largest multi-brand hospitality and accommodation technology platform in Southeast Asia, sees Yogyakarta as one of the more resilient travel destinations amid current economic conditions, driven by its strong mix of culture, culinary experiences, and local attractions, alongside relatively affordable travel costs.
As travel trends become increasingly experience-led, travellers today are not only looking for places to stay, but also seeking more authentic experiences that are closely connected to local communities and everyday culture.
“Yogyakarta has a unique appeal that is difficult to replicate because it offers a well-rounded travel experience at an affordable cost. From cultural attractions and historical sites to local culinary experiences, these factors continue to encourage domestic travellers to return to Jogja,” said Ovaldo Sanjaya, General Manager Area East & Bali at RedDoorz.
This trend is also reflected in Yogyakarta’s tourism performance, which continues to show steady growth. According to data from Indonesia’s Central Statistics Agency (BPS), Yogyakarta recorded 40.6 million domestic tourist trips and 102,817 international tourist visits throughout 2025. The trend continued into the first quarter of 2026, with domestic tourist visits reaching 10.4 million, up from 10.2 million during the same period last year.
Throughout 2025, Yogyakarta remained one of RedDoorz’s top-performing tier-1 cities nationally, with more than 445,000 bookings throughout the year. The positive momentum was also reflected during the 2026 Eid holiday period, when RedDoorz properties in Yogyakarta achieved a 55% occupancy rate, up 91% year-on-year.
RedDoorz also observed shifting traveller behaviour, particularly among Gen Z and millennials, who are increasingly influenced by digital platforms and social media when choosing travel destinations and accommodation.
Gen Z travellers tend to conduct more extensive research before booking accommodation, from comparing reviews, accessibility, and pricing to evaluating a property’s visual appeal on platforms such as TikTok and Instagram. Meanwhile, millennials generally place greater emphasis on comfort, reliable facilities, strategic locations, and practical stay experiences for family or group travel.
“To cater to increasingly diverse traveller preferences, we continue to strengthen our multi-brand strategy in Yogyakarta through brands such as SANS and URBANVIEW, which are designed to serve different traveller needs — from budget-conscious travellers to those looking for a more modern and visually appealing stay experience,” added Ovaldo.
Throughout 2025, SANS Hotel became the highest-performing brand in Yogyakarta in terms of relative performance, reaching 1.3x the city average. This reflects growing demand for affordable accommodation with a more modern lifestyle concept and visually appealing design.
This trend is also reflected in the experience of property owners. Puspita Melati, Owner of SANS Hotel Nagari Malioboro, shared that the property's performance has been supported by RedDoorz's direct involvement in hotel operations. “Before being managed under RedDoorz's company-operated model, our property's average occupancy was around 40%. Today, it has increased to around 75%, supported by RedDoorz's operational expertise. The collaboration with RedDoorz has helped us expand our reach while continuing to deliver a comfortable stay experience for guests,” she said.
To capture this growing demand, RedDoorz will continue expanding its property network in Yogyakarta through the growth of its company-operated hotel portfolio and multi-brand strategy. Throughout 2026, RedDoorz is targeting the addition of around 96 new properties in Yogyakarta.
“Through our multi-brand strategy, we aim to continue addressing evolving traveller needs while also helping property owners improve business performance more sustainably,” Ovaldo concluded.
