Makassar, 25 May 2026 – Makassar is increasingly demonstrating its potential as one of the key growth centers for the tourism and business industries in Eastern Indonesia. The rising volume of business travel, supported by massive infrastructure development and growing tourist arrivals, has driven strong demand for accommodation in the city.
Southeast Asia’s largest multi-brand hospitality and accommodation technology platform, RedDoorz, sees Makassar as one of the cities with continuously growing hospitality business potential. Throughout 2025, RedDoorz recorded more than 64,000 bookings from all RedDoorz and multi-brand partner properties in Makassar.
“Makassar holds a strategic position as a major business hub in Eastern Indonesia. In addition to serving as a meeting point for business players from both western and eastern parts of Indonesia, the city is also supported by excellent connectivity through Sultan Hasanuddin International Airport, which has the highest flight frequency in Eastern Indonesia,” said Yohana Purba, General Manager West Area RedDoorz.
According to Yohana, the high volume of business travel to Makassar has also shaped accommodation demand patterns. Based on RedDoorz data, 93% of accommodation bookings in Makassar were made at the last minute, either on the same day or one day before check-in. In addition, 96% of guests stayed for short durations of only 1–2 nights.
“This pattern shows that accommodation demand in Makassar is heavily influenced by fast-moving and dynamic business mobility. Therefore, digital distribution technology and AI-based pricing optimization have become increasingly important in helping hotels capture market opportunities in real time,” she added.
The Makassar City Government’s commitment to strengthening its role as an economic and business hub in Eastern Indonesia can also be seen through various strategic infrastructure developments. The inauguration of the Makassar Government Center (MGC) symbolizes the city’s transformation toward more modern and integrated public services for residents and investors alike.
In addition, the Multi Years Project (MYP) road development, which began in April 2026, aims to improve connectivity between supporting regions and the city center. Meanwhile, the Barombong Bridge project, targeted to complete land acquisition by June 2026, is expected to ease mobility and reduce congestion toward Makassar’s southern coastal area.
On the other hand, the growth of the tourism sector has also contributed to increasing accommodation demand. According to data from the Makassar Tourism Office, domestic tourist arrivals to Makassar in 2025 reached 6.18 million visits, an increase of 12.06% compared to the previous year. The development of destinations such as Lanjukang Island, Samalona Island, and the Tallo River is also expected to strengthen Makassar’s tourism appeal in 2026. These developments are projected to encourage visitors to stay longer by offering a wider variety of tourism activities.
Seeing this potential, RedDoorz continues to strengthen its expansion and partnerships in Makassar as part of its Eastern Indonesia growth strategy. Currently, RedDoorz has partnered with 48 properties in Makassar to accommodate both tourists and business travelers.
For property owners, the growing accommodation demand has also positively impacted hotel business performance. One of RedDoorz’s partner properties in Makassar, RedDoorz Plus @ Harvest Inn Panakkukang Makassar, has maintained strong occupancy performance since joining RedDoorz in 2020.
“Partnering with RedDoorz has had a significant positive impact on our hotel’s revenue stability. In addition, hotel operations have become more professional, especially in terms of property visibility and technology-based digital marketing,” said Venesia, Owner of RedDoorz Plus @ Harvest Inn Panakkukang Makassar.
Positive business performance after partnering with RedDoorz has also been experienced by Stephany, Owner of RedDoorz Plus near Sultan Hasanuddin Airport and RedDoorz Plus near Makassar Town Square. Since joining RedDoorz in 2018, both properties have consistently shown positive business growth, with occupancy and revenue continuing to increase year after year.
“Entrusting the management of my two properties to RedDoorz over the past eight years has been the right decision. In addition to improving our hotel visibility through broader digital marketing, RedDoorz’s systems and technology have also made hotel operations more professional. As a result, our revenue and occupancy have continued to grow consistently,” said Stephany.
“We are optimistic that Makassar will continue to grow as a business hub and strategic destination in Eastern Indonesia. RedDoorz remains committed to becoming a strategic partner for hotel owners in capturing the city’s growing opportunities,” concluded Yohana Purba.
