Malang, March 27, 2026 – Accommodation demand in Malang City has shown a positive growth trend, driven by increasing tourism activity and domestic tourist mobility. RedDoorz, a leading multi-brand hospitality and accommodation technology platform in Southeast Asia, recorded more than 278,000 room sales from all property partners and multi-brand properties in Malang throughout 2025.
Currently, RedDoorz’s network in Malang has grown to 164 property partners serving various traveler segments. This growth reflects Malang’s increasingly strong position as one of the leading tourism destinations in East Java.
“Malang has a unique appeal as it combines its role as an educational city with its position as a tourism destination. In addition, access to the city is becoming easier, resulting in increased tourist mobility from various cities, particularly across East Java,” said Ovaldo Sanjaya, General Manager Area East & Bali, RedDoorz.
In terms of consumer behavior, RedDoorz recorded that short trips continue to dominate tourist visits to Malang. As many as 87% of guests choose to stay for one night, with more than 211,000 bookings recorded throughout the year. Meanwhile, approximately 62% of bookings are made on the same day as the stay date, indicating a strong trend toward spontaneous or last-minute bookings.
The growth in accommodation demand is also supported by an increase in tourist visits to Malang City. Based on data from the Malang City Youth, Sports, and Tourism Office, the number of tourist visits reached 3.4 million, exceeding the target of 3.3 million visits, or approximately 103% of the target.
Alongside the growing accommodation demand, several property partners working with RedDoorz have also recorded positive business performance. Technology support, broad consumer distribution reach, and assistance from RedDoorz’s local teams help property owners optimize their operations and occupancy rates.
One of them is Indah Sri Handayani, Owner of RedDoorz Premium @ Jalan Cengkeh Malang. Since joining the RedDoorz group in 2019, the property has recorded an average occupancy rate of 60%. “Joining RedDoorz has had a very significant impact on our business. In addition to helping increase our property’s visibility across digital platforms, the support from the local team has also helped us manage our operations more effectively,” said Indah.
Positive performance has also been experienced by Kristina Caturkaryani, Owner of SANS Arya Hotel Batu. As a newly built property that directly joined the SANS brand in early 2025, SANS Arya Hotel Batu received a very positive response from customers. This is reflected in the hotel’s occupancy rate, which has reached 75%. “Our collaboration with RedDoorz has helped us manage the property more professionally, particularly in digital marketing and demand management. This has been very helpful in increasing occupancy and revenue stability,” said Kristina.
Most tourists staying in Malang come from surrounding cities, with Surabaya being the largest contributor to room bookings. In terms of connectivity, access to Malang has also continued to improve. Since its opening in 2019, the Pandaan–Malang Toll Road has further reduced travel time from Surabaya and surrounding areas to the city.
Looking ahead, access to tourist destinations in Malang will also be further strengthened through the Malang–Kepanjen Toll Road project, which is included in Indonesia’s list of National Strategic Projects. The project is expected to improve connectivity to the southern Malang area, which is home to various natural tourism destinations, including routes to Balekambang Beach and the Bantur area.
In addition to improved accessibility, Malang is also known for its diverse tourism landscape. Tourists can enjoy mountain areas and family recreation around Batu City, while also exploring various beach destinations in southern Malang.
From the perspective of national development, Malang is also receiving strategic attention from the government. The National Development Planning Agency has designated Malang as a pilot project for the 2026 national strategic program, making it a role model for a tourism city in East Java that integrates three key sectors: tourism, education, and agriculture.
“With its combination of natural tourism potential, a strong education ecosystem, and continuously developing infrastructure, Malang is projected to remain one of the key centers of tourism and regional economic growth in East Java,” Ovaldo concluded.
